These past few years have shaped our relationships in more ways than we think, and one of those might be entering a roommate phase with your loved one.
Have you noticed that even though you’re living in the same place 24/7, you spend less quality time together and perhaps feel like you’ve grown an emotional distance? Welcome to the roommate phase!
Don’t worry, it’s totally normal and it doesn’t mean your romantic relationship is over. Just by showing interest in fixing this problem and searching for ways to re-connect with your partner, you are one step closer to being the power couple you used to be.
We came up with our favorite couples activities that will bring you two lovebirds back together:
Cooking
Find your saved recipes on Pinterest you always wanted to try, or get creative and come up with a totally new recipe. Make sure to enjoy the cooking process and don’t get mad if your partner doesn’t know how to properly cut the onions. It’s all about the bonding experience and having fun!
Dine at the table and DON’T watch the TV
Now that you’ve cooked a delicious meal (or baked frozen pizza, we don’t judge), it’s time to sit down at the table, lit a couple of candles, and enjoy the romantic atmosphere. Forget about the new Netflix show, you can watch it later.
Movie Night
Though we don’t recommend watching movies while eating (at least not all the time), there’s nothing better than bonding over a great movie before going to bed. When picking movies don’t forget to keep your partner’s interests in mind. If they are a huge Sci-Fi fan, High School Musical probably isn’t the way to go.
Karaoke
Play a game of karaoke, or put on your favorite song and sing away. Are you finding it hard to sing in pitch? No reason to hold back, it’s still a great way to bond with your partner and share some extra laughs.
Drive around without a destination
Planning your next trip can be stressful and expensive, that’s why exploring your city and driving around some streets you’ve never been to is a fantastic idea. It doesn’t take much time or money to ‘travel’ around and visit some new places in your county. Who knows, you might even find your new favorite coffee shop!
Record a podcast
It’s not about publishing an amazing podcast, but rather coming up with a few random topics to discuss with your partner and recording it on your phone so you can listen to your conversation when you’re 80.
Paint
You can create a contest to see who draws a better duck in under 30 seconds, or you can create a calm environment and paint for hours to relax and enjoy some quiet time together.
Talk about future plans and goals
Talking about goals can motivate us and reassure our hard work is worth it. Make sure you truly listen to your partner’s goals and show interest in them.
More date night ideas:
- Create a funny PowerPoint presentation
- Have a glass of wine and scroll through old photos and memories
- Wear each other’s clothes and pretend you are them
- Play your favorite games
- Have a zoom double date with your mutual friends
