Water is the most important essential nutrient your body needs. It comprises over two-thirds of your body weight and is a part of every cell, tissue, and organ in your body. Your brain is made up of 90% water, blood is 82% and lungs are nearly 90%. Water is vital to every single body function, including regulating temperature and metabolism.
You should aim to drink half a gallon of water per day. There are many benefits to drinking water such as weight loss, increased energy, stronger muscles, improved immune system, and glowing skin.

How to make water taste better?
There are many ways to add flavor to plain water without adding sugar or artificial flavors. Try squeezing fresh lemon or lime juice into your water. Or infuse it with fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries, or melon. You can also add fresh herbs like mint or basil for some extra flavor.
Does coffee/tea count as water intake?
If you’re drinking coffee or tea, note that caffeine is a diuretic, meaning it makes you urinate more frequently than normal. So every cup of coffee or tea will count against your daily fluid intake goal; for example, if you drink two cups in one day, aim for an extra cup of water to compensate for the dehydrating effect of caffeine.
Signs that your body needs more water
When you think you’re thirsty, it’s often a sign that you’re already dehydrated. Your body is very good at conserving water, so it won’t tell you that you need it until after it already does.
Thirst is a response to dehydration, but there are many other signs that your body may be trying to show you before thirst sets in. These include darker urine, dry mouth and skin, constipation, dizziness, fatigue, and headaches. If your body doesn’t get the water it needs for a long period of time, it could lead to kidney stones and even death.
If you don’t drink enough water each day, your body will take water from certain organs in order to continue operating properly. This can lead to problems with those organs. For example, if your brain doesn’t get enough water, it can cause seizures. Drinking enough water every day is an important part of keeping these problems from occurring!
Drinking more than the recommended amount
Any more than 2 liters per day will simply be excreted by the kidneys. In fact, drinking too much water can be dangerous because your kidneys won’t be able to handle it. People with kidney problems should consult their doctor before increasing their water intake.
Weight loss
The problem is that sometimes we confuse thirst with hunger. We think we need food when what we really need is water. That’s why so many people who are trying to lose weight eat less but don’t lose as much weight as they’d expect to because they don’t get enough water.
So if you want to boost your metabolism, improve your overall health and perhaps even lose some weight in the process, you need to start drinking more water.
