The best date nights don’t always have to be going out. Sure, it’s lots of fun to go out and try new restaurants, try out new bars, go see a movie, or maybe even hit up a concert. However, when you’re in a long-term relationship, sometimes going out on a date can get exhausting. Going out to eat is expensive, going to bars can be loud, and the hustle and bustle of things to do can become exhausting after a while. So you want to stay at home but still have a good time with your significant other? Try some of the following ideas.
Movie Night
This is pretty self-explanatory and probably doesn’t require much more explanation than that. Pick up some snacks (or make your own—cooking together is also a great way to spend time together) and watch a movie together! The only problem that might come up here is that sometimes movies alone can get boring or awkward if you’re watching something that isn’t for the both of you (for example: an action film with your boyfriend who loves action films but you hate them). So make sure you both compromise on a movie both of you will enjoy watching.
Cooking together
We’ve found that cooking together as a fun date while staying in is an excellent way to break out of a rut. If you’re not confident in your cooking skills, this doesn’t have to mean spending hours pounding out an elaborate feast together—the point is that you’re doing something together that requires attention, coordination, and communication. Maybe you take turns chopping while the other explains how they’ll later use those ingredients, or maybe one person sets up the dining room table while the other starts working on dinner; maybe one person tests out their new recipe on the other one before dinner. For bonus points: make something extra tasty and invite friends over!
At-home fitness class
If you and your partner have been looking for a way to spend some quality time together, it might be a good idea to try something out of the norm. It could be going out to dinner, or maybe even just watching a movie to break up the monotony of everyday life. However, sometimes even those things can grow dull! If you want to try something different, why not look into some at-home fitness classes? It’s a great way to build stronger connection as well as muscle. Try to find fitness classes you both will enjoy and won’t feel overwhelming.
A little bit of sweat and physical activity are great ways to get your blood flowing and revitalize your soul. That’s why finding something fun for you both is so important; with any luck, you’ll find a class that’s ideal for getting closer as well!
Video games
We love playing video games, whether it’s a competitive game like Gang Beasts and Beach Buggy, or a co-op game like Overcooked 2. Video games are a great way to spend time together, but they can also be a great way to have a conversation with your partner, which we find can help you get to know each other better.
